Once a thriving farming community, Galboly gradually depopulated over the mid-to-late 20th century as residents moved closer to modern infrastructure.

The site features a collection of traditional stone cottages, drystone walls, and ruins preserved in various states, offering a stark glimpse into rural 19th-century Irish life.

It gained international recognition as a filming location for Game of Thrones, serving as part of Runestone in the Vale of Arryn.
